Prayer in Grief

Bring your sorrow to Him

There is no need to hurry past sorrow. Bring your loss before Jesus, with whatever words you have today.

The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.

A prayer brought before God

When Mary came to Jesus after her brother Lazarus had died, she fell at His feet in sorrow. Jesus saw her weeping and wept Himself. At the tomb, He called Lazarus out, revealing His power over death. This account shows His compassion for those who mourn and directs our hope toward Him, without asking us to hide our grief.

John 11:32–44

Let us pray.

Lord Jesus, You know the sorrow I find hard to put into words.

Meet me in the ache of this loss. Help me receive care from those who can walk beside me, and give me room to remember and to weep.

Hold my heart near Your truth when the days feel heavy. Let Your compassion accompany me, one moment at a time.

Amen.

Carry this assurance with you.

Jesus speaks of comfort for those who mourn. You can bring Him your sorrow and receive support without needing to pretend that loss is easy.

Matthew 5:4
