Turn toward Jesus, who served with love. Ask for a heart willing to listen, learn and care for others.
Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.
A prayer brought before God
Knowing that He had come from God and was returning to God, Jesus rose from supper and washed His disciples’ feet. He then explained that He had given them an example of service. His humility was grounded in who He was. This moment invites us to serve with love, without treating ourselves or others as less worthy of care.
John 13:3–17Let us pray.
Lord Jesus, teach me the humility You showed.
Help me listen before defending myself and admit when I have been wrong. Free me from the need to be noticed in every good thing I do.
Give me confidence to use my gifts in service, without looking down on others. Let truth and gentleness shape the way I walk with You.
Amen.
Carry this assurance with you.
Humble yourself before the Lord. You can bring Him your gifts, your limits and your need to learn, trusting Him with the recognition you seek.
